WEEKEND 1 - ENGLAND
Scafell Pike - Sca Fell - Helvellyn
Three mountains. Around 30 miles. Approximately 2,700m of ascent. The first weekend of my 3×3 Peaks Challenge raising money for Maggie's Centres.

The Journey Begins
This first weekend marks the start of my biggest physical challenge yet.
Over two days, We'll climb England's three highest mountains — Scafell Pike, Scafell and Helvellyn — covering around 30 miles through some of the Lake District's most spectacular and demanding terrain. From steep rocky ascents and loose scree to exposed ridges and hands-on scrambling, it's a challenging way to begin the 3×3 Peaks Challenge and will set the tone for the weekends to follow.
This first weekend is dedicated to Maggie's. The charity provides free practical, emotional and psychological support to people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends. Having seen first-hand the difference that Maggie's made to a close friend during her breast cancer treatment, I know how invaluable that support can be during one of life's most difficult times.
I'm taking on this challenge because no one should have to face cancer alone. By raising both awareness and funds, I hope to help Maggie's continue providing the expert support, welcoming spaces and compassionate care that make such a positive difference to so many people when they need it most.
Day 1
This will be one of the most technically demanding days of the entire challenge, with steep ascents, loose scree, rocky terrain and sections that require hands-on scrambling. The original plan included climbing Lord's Rake, one of the Lake District's most famous scrambling routes, but we'll make a final decision on the day depending on conditions and how everyone in the group feels. The more likely option is to reach Scafell via Foxes Tarn, returning the same way after the summit.
Whatever route we take, it promises to be a challenging start to the first weekend and a real test of fitness, confidence and teamwork.
Day 2 - Option 1
Helvellyn has two route options. Option 1 - from Swirls Car Park. This is a 'simple' there & back. If the weather is against us this is the route we will take.
Day 2 - Option 2
Option 2 - from Glenridding. This is the more challenging route up the infamous Striding Edge. Only to be tackled if the weather is kind & our nerves hold. Descent via Swirral Edge & following Glenridding Beck back to base.
